Beyond Research

Mentoring for Women in Science

Mentor at Supernova Foundation, (01/2018 – now).

I hold monthly one-on-one mentoring sessions with my mentees – a physics undergraduate student in Chile and an astronomy undergraduate student in Brazil. The Foundation organizes quarterly webinars of general interest for both mentors and mentees that are filmed and are part of the online resources available to our members. For these webinars, I acted as: panelist for “Career Advice” on 12/07/2018, host for “Scientific Writing” on 04/04/2019 and host for the upcoming “Managing Academic Responsibilities”.

Scientific Communication around DESI

Meet a DESI member“, (11/2019 – NOW).

Twice a month, we introduce a member of the collaboration to the general public. In addition to presenting the various aspects of DESI through the work of different people, the idea is to make our members accessible, especially to young minds so that they can identify with scientists from different backgrounds and more easily consider a career in science. I share the responsibility for this section with Parker Fagrelius, the co-convener of the DESI Outreach Committee.

INTERVIEW IN the series “Strip the Cosmos” OF THE SCIENCE DISCOVERY CHANNEL, (04/2020 – INTERVIEW POSTPONED POST-COVID-19).

The episode in question of “Strip the Cosmos” is intended to present the major cosmological surveys of our era. The Science Discovery Channel asked me to represent DESI. This intervention has been approved by Michael Levi, the director of DESI. The filming, which was scheduled to take place in Kitt Peak in April 2020, has been postponed due to travel restrictions.
